Windischeschenbacher vs Franconian Bier |

| Had only a short time to try to convince Jason, Jim, Mark, et al, this afternoon of the superiority of Franconian beer to Upper Palatinatian (?) beer, and may not have succeeded. I blame the extremely unfresh, stuffy, warm conditions in the Zoiglstuben having limited my argumentative powers. And the quality of the Zoigl at all three places, though Schoilmoichl(?) was the least impressive. It was a quick, spontaneous visit for me, having only decided to go at about 13.00 and arriving around 16.00, prompted by Uncle Jimbo's messages asking if I was going, as he was underway from MUC. It was a lovely day for a drive, I had nothing pressing to attend to, and hey, diesel's free in the company car. So, a Pfiff of all three and back home. The drive took me to Neuhaus first, and there were the above-mentioned already there when I arrived. Save Jim, who was still under way. I was concerned about the Schoilmichl, having had it be undrinkably sour during my visit nearly a decade ago. But no, it was fine.  From there to Schlosshof, where I was cornered by an unintelligble drunk for my Pfiff of that lovely lager of character, and then on to Glossner, which was absolutely heaving, and had the most impressive of the beers. Jason & the ladies (no, really) showed up there as I was finishing up, and so I was back up to Schoilmichl to see how the others were doing. I think Mark managed about 6 Seidla in the space of my 3 Pfiffs.    So, unlike my other visit to Zoiglland in 2006, this saw interesting beers with character (esp Beim Glosser), and yes, the places are unique, but the stuffiness inside....I nearly lost consciousness. And that with the Rauchverbot. Back home for tea, luckily traffic was good both ways. |
