| As the weather was so much better, we decided to chance a walk. Very nice stroll along the Main, slightly disrupted by the incursions of the rail works. We'd been to Hellmuth before with Juergen and it was as nice as I remembered it. Called for zwei fassbiers and got 2 amber coloured seidlas, much maltier than expected but with a delicate hop flavour - really flavoursome. Moved inside and ordered a couple of dunkles. Now that's how I remembered Hellmuth! Not quite so tasty as the first but still good. Moved down the road to Thomann and what a contrast! All restauranty, tables set for meals, etc. Still, the service wasn't unpleasant but the beer, a dunkles, had an odd aftertaste. J said straightway 'Cabbage!', which wasn't immediately obvious to me but could well have been. More to the point, I realised why Juergen hadn't bothered going there. But still, a nice afternoon. |
