Pils

As far as I know the first "Pilseners" showed up in Germany in the 1920's (Radeberger, some breweries in Berlin and so on) In the beginning it was called "nach Pilsener Brauart", then "Pilsener" and now just "Pils". Compared to the czech (or "bohemian") original, most of the german copies (especially of the North german badlands) are of ridiculous quality, because the brewers avoid the use of aromatic hops ("the customers are not used to it..."), so that these brews are just metallic-bitter; the second mistake is the lack of a (sweetish) malty body as a counterweight to the hoppy bitterness, therefore euphemistically called "ein schlankes Pils". So the result is often a harsh, bitter "beer" giving You an empty mouthfeel. It is understood, that these products have nothing in common with a divine Pilsner Urquell!!!
