Pils

Agreed. Franconiam pils are more like the sud bayerischer helles (with exceptions). They are sweeter and not as hoppy as in the north for example. Compare them to Czech lazak, especially the good stuff, and it's far removed in my opinion. Comparing good Czech lager to anything is far removed. It's nectar. As for drinking Franken pils, I rarely imbibe though I'll often try one I haven't before. That said i like the pils in Lohndorf. Typically for the brewery it's on the sweet side but as a beer it's excellent. Makes a slightly more difficult choice but the vollbier is still superb. Strong contrast to Mahrs pils (now draft at mahrs) which was dull and boring. We could get technical about what a pils should be but frankly I more interested in what it tastes like.
