| The first thing to say is that I have become quite a fan of Brno.It is a general workaday sort of a place with a castle, and a small historic section just off the standard shopping area in the centre.A fantastic tram and trollybus system(and at 14 euro cents and 11 UK pence per hour remarkable value) which allows easy access to the many and varied drinking and eating options to be found.Some of which I will mention,my own preference is for places with a pleasant or unusual/ quirky atmosphere,whith of course good Beer and food! I also like to try hand crafted local beer,but am not really a "Ticker" albeit, most I went too usuallyhad a choice of 3 or more beers.So in no particular order, 4 micro breweries,Charlies square( prob least favourite of the trip) Pegas,Lisensky pivovar ( bizzare location in former communist shopping centre and high rise housing complex) and one of my favourites. Magistr pivovar( okish). the bars/pubs,Hostinecs etc that I visited,that I can recall are- U Capa, U mica, Ochutnavkova pivnice, Vycep na stajoka, Pivnice u Poutnika ( prob a must do for the ambience) Toulavy kocour, U trek certu, Hostinec u Tesare, Na tahu, Mamut, Starobrno brewery tap(v good) and around the main station,stand up bars in butchers shops etc! where one watch ones tram roll in.And a great terrace to sit with a beer waiting for the half hourly service bus to the airport! plus a few others that time, age, and the Beer,have faded from memory.with the cost of living so inexpensive in comparison to the UK and USA and Germany( £10.30p for a two course lunch and four beers) the great transport system etc I would not hesitate to recommend it as a beer tourist destination. A couple of caveats,English is not widely spoken,(nor would I expect it to be)and in the colder months smoking in the pubs would be a bugbear for non puffers! Ps. any Czech speakers reading this,my apologies for the spelling but I have absoloutley no idea how to find Czech alphabet on my keyboard! |
