Franken to Allgau journey |

| Simple really, Shannon is half hour drive from home, whereas we have to drive for more than 2 hours to Kerry, including an expensive ferry across the Shannon that only operates up to 7 pm. Then, either Franken or Oberpfalz to Frankfurt involves 2 Land cards and, as Ryanair Frankfurt is actually nowhere near Frankfurt, an additional long coach ride! Believe me, we did the trip several times before the Shannon - Memmingen flight started and it is no fun! Franken or Oberpfalz to Memmingen is not really too much trouble but J. doesn't like to make the trip on the day of the flight because the contemporary unreliability of Deutsche Bahn makes missing the flight a real possibility (I won't bore readers again with the awful experiences in Buttenheim this year). If we can ever manage our move to the UK, there is direct flight from Manchester (or Stansted) to Nurnberg - heaven! |
