Sorry I found this thread a bit late, but for the record, here are your two options for a Sparticket short connection:
The ticket is only valid for a specific long-distance or night train. There is no restriction for connecting local trains, only that the connection should be on the same date or within 24 hours.
So Uncle Jim's suggestion to take an earlier train From Bamberg to Würzburg is the best alternative. But the connection guarantee also means that you are entitled to travel on the next long-distance train in case of a delayed train from Bamberg. Then, of course, you have missed your reserved seat and may have to look around a bit. In 1st class there should not be much of a problem. You don't need to worry about having your ticket endorsed, the IC/ICE staff will know about the delayed connection.
