Bauchfass/Tub/Gravity Barrel Question

I have seen some real wood casks in Germany.Never had a chance to look close,but I suspect they are stainless steel lined. although the ones at Schlenkerla look light enough to be wood only.?
I have always heard "tub" used as slang for a cask specificaly a firkin (9 gallon cask).
ie, one would hear a landlord say "I need 3 tubs of beer x" It may be a southern/london thing,but not sure on that.
(Of course the mighty sams still use wood!)
