Ah, looking again, he does brew IPA and whatnot. But I would imagine this is a necessity of brewing life in Portland. There just might not be enough lager louts there to keep the business afloat just on Germanic beer styles alone, especially given its size.

Just as a big brewpub here probably wouldn't survive brewing only modern American styles, but would have to include a Vollbier or something for the normal natives.
