A couple of observations

Interesting comments, Andy. I've only been in Mahrs a couple of times since they ended the 4 pm BA; to me it seemed to have lost a lot of character. I liked the murky, yeasty look and taste, reminded me a lot of Burton beers of yesteryear. Herren pils I can take or leave, but it's nothing really special for me. As I've commented before, I've sort of rediscovered Faessla, which  I'd almost abandoned but though I really like the Spezial beers, I love the rough and tumble of the Faessla Schramm!

It's been an interesting visit to Eschawo, with more and more info on the brewing techniques. I'm now sure that this is a double mash or decoction method, with half of the first mash transferred to the sud pfanne, boiled and then returned to the mash tun, before the wort is finally all returned to the sud pfanne for final cooking. As I understand it, not many German brewers now do this, as modified malts can do with a single mash.

You're never to old to learn!
