Visit to Bamberg...vs Nuremberg |

| I can't recall exactly when I first heard of Bamberg. It must've been in my early 30's, in the late 90's, as I was learning of various traditional European beer styles, like Rauchbier. And it sounded questionable, because it was described to me as smokiness on a lager base, rather than on a strong porter base, like what smoked beer in OR brewpubs and Alaskan Smoked Porter was like. Sounded too smokey. But we didn't visit til our second trip to Germany, in 2002, four nights at the end of a two-week trip. Our first trip hither was a year or two prior, a week in Munich and a week in Vienna. |
