CAMRA on Porter & Stout

I think there are Britons who claim that only mild, bitter (of different strengths) and beers with "ale" in the name (pale ale, golden ale, old ale, IPA) are "ales"; porter and stout are simply porter and stout. I think. But I might have that wrong, as such lines of thinking are strange and foreign to me.
