| A lot of work? Meh. It was a bit of Sunday morning sloth. Braunbier is an interesting case, as would be Rotbier. Either by colour (dark or amber lager), or maybe in the traditional category, or specialty. These are rare specialties after all. They do already have Rotbier in their "Amber/Vienna" category. Roßdorfer Braunbier is in their "Dunkel/Tmavy" category. I have no big problem with either of these categorisations, as I don't know if we know enough about the historical recipes to suggest they had some special character other than slightly darker & "roastier" than paler beers, as one would expect when using more dark malts. Surely you don't mean to question whether Schwarze Anne (for example) has any "dark beer" flavour & aroma! Or Meister Vollbier. And regarding whether any of this is a worthy endeavour...of course, one man's hobby is another man's belly laugh. It is interesting to compare the style categories used by CAMRA for the Champion Beer of Britain competition with, say, the US GABF, or the World Beer Star (or whatever it's called) competitions. You British lot are much more succinct: Is it GOOD, or is it SHITE? (Apologies to users of the USENET of the 90's....) |
