| So. Yesterday I visited Steinbach-Bräu Erlangen for the first time. What can one say about it? Nice brewery, very busy and loud. Good food. Many students and Siemensians. Of course I was curious what the beer would be like and was... ...very disappointed with the Storchenbier (Helles Vollbier). It's surely a matter of taste but I just couldn't stand that vanillalike sweetness in the background. I had one, then three Hopferli (wet hopped Vollbier), then another Storchenbier to give it another chance. It was even more awful. But that's my personal taste as I said. It's probably not a bad beer as so many people in the Pub enjoyed it. But the Hopferla was very nice indeed! It's 100% green Spalter Select that gives the beer that characteristic Spalter taste. The beer itself is full bodied and very drinkable. Had to have one after my second Storchen to wash out my mouth. Now - the price for the beer at Steinbach is shocking! Think it was € 3,30 for the Storchen and € 3,50 or € 3,60 for the Hopferla. A very expensive evening. |
