Best Beer in Forchheim

Far be it from me to contradict my august friend Andy but I served Wadworth 6X in wooden barrels for a couple of years and it wasn't at all 'twangy'.  In fact, I've always thought that 6X had a sort of mellow, almost sweetish, taste but excellent anyway and quite diferent from SS bitter.

Does wooden or metal casks really make a difference?  After all, the beer doesn't stay in them that long and the industry claim not.
