I've noticed they don't check the tickets as much as I seem to remember on DB.

Makes sense in the UK to be honest, they must save a lot of money from fare dodgers, especially in London when the trains stop regularly and conductors can be avoided.

The Germans tend to have a different mentality (not all I hasten to add). They buy tickets because they feel obliged, not because they can't get away with not buyng them.
