Its kind of tacky to leave a message in one owns guest book, but somebody has to get the ball rolling.

Great website, can't wait to visit and put the info to good use!

Fred, I wish that this project shows the american people and the rest of the world the true beer-pleasure. I like sending the best beer of the world all over the world!! Frank from www.bierregion-franken.de

From Wolfgang Göller of Bamberg on 6/28/2002
Congratulations to your beautiful interesting homepage! I needed more then an hour to read it but I confirm all you wrote. Keep on paying homage the Franconian Breweries and their beers!

From Don Scheidt of Seattle, WA on 6/29/2002
Great start to an essential beer guide. Bamberg and its surrounding Franconian region are deserving of greater exposure, especially since the number of breweries is declining steadily, year by year. For beer lovers and people interested in one of Germany's best regions for the visitor, Bamberg is an absolute must. Keep up the good work!

From Chuck Cook of Chapel Hill, NC on 7/7/2002
What Don said! That just about covers it. Nice work, Fred.

From Andreas Gündel of Gütersloh on 7/16/2002
Hi, Fred I really enjoyed reading this website, I think this one is already the best on the subject and it sure will improve in the future when more and more beer lovers will add their comments on Franconian beer! CU on your next Stice Warrior trip to Europe!

From Bjarke Bundgaard of Copenhagen on 8/7/2002
Hi there. I believe Franconian beer together with the neighbouring Bohemian styles make up everything a man could ever wish for ;) I will defintely keep an eye open towards this site in the future. It combines two important things: Frankische Bier und die englische Sprache. Good luck! Bjarke

From Peter Alexander of Manchester on 8/16/2002

Hi Fred, We met last weekend in Bamberg. You know: the Finnish guy from Holland. Hope you had a good trip home. Just visited your site. I'm impressed by the information you already have about Bamberg and Franconia. I've bookmarked it so you can count on many hits from me. Hope we see each other again next year in Fassla. Rob.

Great web site about the greatest beer region in the world. Have visited Franconia twice and are planning a third trip for late July 2003, glad I found your site as it has been very helpful in planning my trip. Will continue to check and consult your website as my trip grows nearer. Thanks

From John Dauenhauer of Metairie on 1/19/2003
So far, 9 visits and visited 289 breweries. So little time, so many great breweries. I also have lasting friendships that started in the biergardens. I suggest a visit as soon as possible. When I first started visiting Franconia, there were 350 breweries. Now I believe it is down to about 260, and the large guys are starting to expand by buying the little breweries. One of the scariest photos I have taken was in 1998, when I stopped for petro. It was in Kelheim, about 30 clicks from Weldenberg. There was a large display of Weldenberg and Miller, side by side. Frightening!!

From Mark Kissel of Atlanta on 1/21/2003
Great website with valuable information on the Breweries & Franconian Beers in the Bamberg area. Hopefully will make my trip to this area next week a more enlightened experience. Missing those dark German beers and can't wait to checkout the Rauchbier!

Hello our dear friends! It's make us very happy that in the whole world there are some good guys who know that we are not bavarians, but FRANCONIANS. And we have our own better culture and language and nothing in common with these suckers from bavarian and munich! WE ARE THE SOLDIERS FOR A FREE FRANCONIA - WE ARE THE SOLDIERS FOR A FREE FRANCONIA! AND WE HATE BAVARIA! (melody: glory, glory, halleluja) best regards THE CLUB-FANS FROM KEMMERN

This year (2003) is the 300th anniversary of the city of St. Petersburg! This will likely mean some VERY SERIOUS BEER drinking going on! If anyone is planning on coming over -- please feel free to drop me a line or visit my site at: http://www.beer-store.com and I can arrange a privat tour of the Baltika Brewery (INCLUDING FREE TASTINGS!) the largest brewery in Europe. Also, if anyone sends me their postal address, I'd be pleased to send a selection of Baltika beer labels and a Russian postcard for FREE! Best regards, Marty... ( admin@beer-store.com )

Hello! First of all I have to addmit, that I'm Franconian, but I don't drink beer at all. Because franconia is devided into two parts: eastern "Bier-Franken" and western "Wein-Franken". I live more in the west, where franconian white wine is growing. I recomend you to test its fantastic flavour, even if you prefer beer... Although I like wine more than beer, I really enjoyed this great website about franconian beer. Unfortunately the small brewery in my own small village Burghaslach closed some years ago. And I really miss the smell of the malting once a month... So come to Franconia and drink what ever you like: water, wine or beer!

hey there! a few months ago my brother was in bamberg and told me when he was back, that he met a nice american with a funny "franconiabeerguide.com" cap on his head, who was talking with him bout some beer information. i couldn't imagine that a couple of fellas really are interested in it. on the other hand i can understand, cause it's the best beer in germany. beer from franconia is cheap (most important) - used to be 2 DM ~ ? 1 ~ $ 1 / 0.5 l - , it's strong and spicey! ...and with every inch you drink it tastes better and better :p

From Tom Wallbank of Indianapolis, IN on 4/9/2003

From H.G. Hokkanen of El Paso, TX on 4/29/2003
My wife and I had the pleasure of living in Bamberg for 7 1/2 years. Your website has brought back a flood of fond memories of afternoons and evenings spent at our favorite beer gardens enjoying the excellent beer, the great food and the hospitality of the people of Bamberg and the surrounding towns and villages. If you are a true beer lover a visit to Bamberg is a must. Go to Maisel Brau, sit under a tree in the Bier Garten, drink a Pils, eat a Holzfaller Steak and your troubles will melt away.

From Chima Kan of Tokyo on 5/28/2003
I really enjoyed your website. I am going to Bamberg next month. Actually, I?ve been there before, but I didn?t drink many kinds of beer at the time. (I didn?t know there are so many breweries) Thank you! I will try a lot of beer as much as possible.

Howdy Ho, Yankies! I´m Johannes from Schönbrunn, a small village about 17 kilometers away from Bamberg! Me and my friends from Schlacht-Haus, the LAN-Community Bamberg, found your page very good, because there´s finally someone, who cares for the good old stuff from Germany. Manowar gave a concert last year and Joey said, Germans got the best beer in the world! Well, he was right! In my opinion, Kaiser beer from Grasmannsdorf is the best. Think about it ;) Thanks for the great page! Greetings from Germany Johannes www.schlacht-haus.de Die Bamberger LAN-Community!

Great Web-Site. I have just been told about it. It has been long needed I have traveled to Franconia since the mid 80s. At long last you have given justice to a remarkable area for the lovers of good beer. In the coming weeks I will have to find my old notes and join the voting on the many brewers and their beers. To start with though I would just like to recommend Helmut Witzgall brewery at Schlammersdorf a small village about 2 miles north west of Forcheim. Excellent Vollbier

From John Jarram of Quorn on 7/1/2003
An excellent site, and once more people get to know about it, the comments and voting on the breweries will grow, and more people will be introduced to the excellent and varied beers available in this region.

From Gail Huebner of Chicago on 9/2/2003
You probably don't remember me, but I ran into you and your friend on my way out of the train station in Bamberg in July. You gave my friend & I directions to some brew houses, and I had the best beer of my life that day in Bamberg! It was the smoked beer of course. I bought some in Seattle last week, but it was not the same as fresh from the mother country! Thank you VERY much for the directions. I'm a flight attendant with occasional trips to Frankfurt, and I will definitely be in Bamberg again! Gail

Although mostly in German besides a small portion written in English, it might be useful to those, who understand a little German. Bottoms up!

Congratulations to Fred for that high frequented site that gives a lot and important informations. You are totally right, Bamberg has the greatest beer in whole Germany and in the whole wide world. It's best to have a view on the breweries and Bambergs history and culture at the same time. Bamberg is more than 1000 years old, and some of the breweries are nearly as old. So you sit in rooms and drink beer which where built long time before America was settled. Maybe even your ancestors where sitting there in a cosy round. Who knows. Greetings to Ami-land ;)

The best Franconia Beer is "Eichhorn" brewed in Dörfleins. No other beer has the taste of the nature more than this one. You have to taste this beer. Greets The BEER SPECIALIST

From Bernard Gray of London on 9/14/2004
Whilst I agree totally with the comments concerning the beer from Brauerei Mager in Pottenstein, I have never encountered a place so infested with flies during summer. To eat there is unthinkable, although I believe the food is very good. During my last visit in August, I had to place a beer mat over the glass to keep the flies from the excellent beer. The gentleman's comments with respect to the Spezial Keller are absolutely correct. Any visit to Bamberg without drinking the Spezial rauch beer on a warm summer evening is beyond contempation.

The wife and I just got back from Dörfleins Germany this month. My wifes family is from there. We try to get back to Germany every year to visit her relatives and enjoy the great German beer. I have to say my favorites are Ichhorn from Dörfliens and Tucher from Nürnberg. I lived just around the corner from the Tucher brewery in Nürnberg for about 5 years during the 70's and for the last 25 years we have been visiting Dörfleins once a year. We always drink Ichhorn Beer while there.

My wife and I were driving back to Frankfurt from Prague and decided to go to Bamberg as we had tasted Rauchbier in USA and decided it could only get better. We spent only 1 & 1/2 short days there and were distracted by the charm of the whole town. However, it was Rauchbier for lunch, for "tea-time", for supper, bed-time drink, AND for breakfast. I describe it to friends as drinking a smoked bacon sandwich. Das is GUT!

A great resource. I am from Wurzburg originally and have visited many of these breweries, including Herrmann's Bier in Ampferbach. Unfortunately no relation, but great hosts when I do show up. Thanks for the effort to keep this site up. Now to break down the customs rules that stop a nice Herrmann's Bier from finding its way to me!

Very interesting site. I have visited many of the breweries in years past. There is nothing so good as a good Franconian beer. Specially those from Ahornberg. Visit us at: WWW.WalkingBearLeather.com Auf Wiedersehen und Tschuess!

Found your business card the other day. I have been enjoying the Franken pin you gave me onboard quite some time ago. Please greet all my relatives in the Wuerzburg area when you get over that way!

This website is awesome. I am using it to choose which breweries to visit when I travel to Germany. The company I work for is located in Forchheim, which is ideal to travel to the breweries in this area. Thanks for all the information on this site. Keep up the great work

Stationed and lived in Bamberg 1980 - 1988. Enjoyed the beers, especially St Georgan Brau keller beer and the dunkle at the Kreuzberg Kloster. Does anyone out there know if the Kruezberg is available in the states or if they will ship their beer? Thanks and enjoy.
